West Ham beat Chelsea 3-1 despite Nayef Aguerd’s red card, leaving Mauricio Pochettino still looking for his first victory as manager of the west London club.
Aguerd gave West Ham the lead in the seventh minute, taking advantage of some poor Chelsea marking to head home debutant James Ward-Prowse’s inch-perfect corner kick, before Carney Chukwuemeka – who was later substituted with a knee injury – leveled with a delicious strike, the 19-year-old’s first in the Premier League.
Michail Antonio put the Hammers back in ahead eight minutes after half-time, and despite Aguerd being sent off for a second yellow midway through the second half, the Hammers held on for a rousing victory, completed by Lucas Pacqeta’s stoppage-time penalty after Caicedo fouled Emerson.
