Troy Deeney may have received a solitary point for his opening draw in charge of Forest Green Rovers but was unable to get off the mark in an episode of Celebrity Mastermind airing at the same time on Friday evening.

The former Watford striker was appointed at the helm of the League Two club in the wake of the departure of head coach David Horseman just five months after his appointment.

Deeney had been featuring at the 23rd-placed club since August, when he signed as a player-coach with a view to gaining his qualifications whilst assisting Horseman.

But Wednesday saw Deeney step up to head the side on a permanent basis with a view to keeping the side from relegation.

Whilst Deeney saw out the tie on the touchline, viewers of the festive iteration of the BBC‘s popular quiz show saw the head coach pick up another zero in a woeful attempt in the ‘specialist subject’ portion of the programme.

Having picked Sam Raimi’s Spiderman film trilogy, Deeney had the nerve-wracking task of stepping up to sit in the historic chair first.

Unable to answer a single question correctly, Deeney took his light humiliation with good humour, laughing himself off the stage.

‘That chair, this atmosphere…’ host Clive Myrie suggested as the conclusion of his round.

‘It’s intense,’ Deeney agreed, before Myrie announced that he had finished with ‘no points’.

The League Two manage chuckled to himself lightheartedly as he went back to his seat.

Deeney fared better in the general knowledge round, garnering the six points necessary to hand him third place.

Dana placed fourth with a paltry five points, Jasmine Harman scored 12, and the show was won on the night by OJ Borg on 16 points.

Deeney had been more confident with the job that was needed at the New Lawn Stadium in the wake of his appointment earlier in the week.

‘I know the fans will have many questions, which will be answered as soon as possible,’ Deeney said as he was announced.
