The Palestinian Prime Minister, Mohammad Shtayyeh, announced the resignation of his government citing the continuous ground and air assaults by the Israeli regime on Palestinians in Gaza, along with escalating violence in the West Bank.
In a weekly cabinet session in Ramallah on Monday, Shtayyeh stated, “This decision is a response to the political, security, and economic developments arising from the aggression against Palestinians in Gaza, and the escalating situation in the West Bank, particularly in Jerusalem.”
He explained that the resignation was prompted by the severe and unprecedented Israeli aggression, characterized by attacks, attempts at forced displacement, and hunger in Gaza.
He noted the rise in settler violence, frequent incursions into West Bank communities, financial constraints, efforts to dismantle the UN Relief and Works Agency for Refugees (UNRWA), renunciation of signed agreements, gradual annexation of Palestinian territories, and attempts to diminish the political stature of the Palestinian Authority.
