Jigawa police arrest suspected car thieves

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected car thieves and recovered three vehicles.

This was contained in a statement on Tuesday by the command’s Assistant  Public Relations Officer, ASP Abubakar Isah.

He said based on credible Intelligence gathered, on November 21, 2023, around 10 pm, a suspicious movement of a vehicle with number plate KWL 274 AS Abuja, was detected around the Parking location in the Investment area of Dutse metropolis.

The statement read, “On 19/11/2023 at about 2000hrs, one Dr Abdullahi Dogo of GRA Hadejia LGA, reported at Dutse Police Station that, on the same date at about 1845 hrs, he parked his Toyota Corolla car with number plate KHS 96 AA JIGAWA, ash in colour at Yantifa market Dutse LGA.

“In the car, there were some items including one laptop, one iPad, two bags containing his clothes, one heater, one cover shoe, and palm sandals. He entered the market to buy some provisions, and upon his return, he discovered that the said motor vehicle was missing.

“On the instruction of the Divisional Police Officer Dutse, the Police Patrol team cordoned the area, and the following suspects namely: Abdullahi Sani, 28 of Mashi L.G.A Katsina state and Faruk Adamu, 29 of Keffi L.G.A Nasarawa State were arrested and taken to the station for interrogation.”

When searched, nine different master keys, different plate numbers, and some mechanic tools were said to have been recovered from them.

The suspects reportedly confessed to being car thieves, and they admitted to having stolen a Toyota Corolla vehicle at the same place before their apprehension.

It was later discovered that the vehicle in question belonged to the Technical Adviser to the Governor of Jigawa State, Dr. Abdullahi Dogo.

The statement quoted the suspects as stating that their boss is one Abubakar popularly known as Dan-fulani who resides in Kano state.

The State Commissioner of Police, who personally interviewed the suspects, instructed the Divisional Police Officer of Dutse Division to swing into action and ensure the apprehension of other suspects at large.

Dan-Fulani who identified himself as Muhammed Sani, was arrested by detectives who went to Kano Command on investigative activities and recovered the said stolen vehicle with another stolen vehicle, a Toyota Corolla, with number plate RBA 585 CE ABUJA strongly suspected to be stolen.

Abubakar said the investigation was still ongoing at SCID Dutse, adding that after completion of the investigation, all the suspects would be charged in court.
