The republic of Ghana is celebrating its 67th Independence Day anniversary, marking 67 years since gaining independence from British colonial rule.

The celebrations, taking place nationwide and among Ghanaians abroad, commemorates the milestone achieved by the country’s inaugural President, Dr Kwame Nkrumah, in liberating Ghana from colonialism.

This year’s national anniversary celebration will be hosted in the Eastern Regional capital of Koforidua, featuring a parade involving security services, students, pupils, and various groups. President Alassane Ouattara of Côte d’Ivoire will attend as the Special Guest of Honour, joined by ambassadors, high commissioners, Ghana’s Speaker of Parliament, and Members of Parliament.
