Authorities say three individuals were slain in a “racially motivated” shooting at a Dollar General in Jacksonville, Florida, on Saturday.

All three victims were Black, and the suspect articulated a “disgusting ideology of hate” in writings, according to Jacksonville Sheriff T.K. Waters.

Simply put, this shooting was racially motivated, and the culprit despised Black people, according to Waters.

According to Waters, the gunman was armed with an AR-15-style rifle and a handgun and was wearing a tactical vest when he shot three persons — two men and a woman — before turning the gun on himself. There were no further injuries recorded as a result of the incident.

The suspect has not yet been officially identified, according to Waters, who characterized him as a white man in his early twenties. He acted alone, and there is no proof he was part of any organization, according to the sheriff.

The suspect is thought to have lived in Clay County with his parents and texted his father prior to the incident, according to the sheriff.

“At 1:18 p.m., he texted his father and told him to check his computer,” Waters explained. “The shooter’s family members called the Clay County Sheriff’s Office at 1:53 p.m. He’d already started shooting in Jacksonville by that point.”
