Pawtucket, Rhode Island — February 17, 2026 — A targeted shooting at the Dennis M. Lynch Arena ice rink in Pawtucket on Monday afternoon, February 16, 2026, resulted in three fatalities, including the suspected gunman, and left three others critically injured.

Authorities described the incident as stemming from a domestic or family dispute, occurring during a high school boys’ hockey game.The shooting took place around 2:30 p.m. EST in the stands of the arena on Andrew D. Ferland Way, while a co-op team game involving schools such as North Providence High School was underway. The event was also celebrating Senior Night for some participants.

Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves identified the suspect as Robert Dorgan, 56, of North Providence, who also went by the names Roberta Esposito. Dorgan was the parent of a North Providence senior playing in the game. Sources, including an ATF official cited by Fox News, indicated that Dorgan fatally shot his wife and two children before turning the gun on himself.

A third child was also shot and remains hospitalized in critical condition. The two deceased victims were adults, believed to be family members.The suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to police. More than one weapon was recovered at the scene. A good Samaritan reportedly intervened, helping bring the incident to a swift end.No hockey players or students were injured in the attack, which authorities emphasized was targeted and not a random act of violence. Witnesses described scenes of chaos and fear as shots rang out, with families and players evacuated.

Approximately 100 witnesses have been interviewed.A woman who identified herself as the shooter’s daughter spoke to reporters outside the Pawtucket Police Department, stating her father had long struggled with mental health issues and was “very sick.” Court records reportedly link past family disputes to conflicts over the suspect’s gender identity.The Rhode Island Interscholastic League suspended all games temporarily in response to the tragedy. Community members, including Mayor Donald R. Grebien, expressed devastation over the incident disrupting what should have been a joyful family event.Police continue to investigate the motive, with mental health and domestic issues believed to be factors.
