The Rivers state Council took the decision at an emergency session presided over by Governor Nyesom Wike at Government House in Port Harcourt.

Commissioner for Education, Kaniye Ebeku while briefing journalists at the end of the meeting said the Council approved the reopening of all Secondary Schools, Vocational Schools, Universities and other Tertiary Institutions ,but did not approve the re-opening of primary schools based on medical advice.

Commissioner for Information and Communications, Paulinus Nsirim said the council also approved the immediate reopening of parks, cinemas and restaurants to operate within the hours of 6am to 9pm daily and must comply with COVID-19 protocols.

He said night clubs, bars, Oil Mill Market and Slaughter Market at Oginigba are to remain closed
