The Nigeria Police Force has announced decisive disciplinary and legal actions against officers involved in the fatal shooting of Mr. Mene Ogidi on 26 April 2026 in Effurun, Delta State.
According to a statement issued on 29 April by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Okon Placid, all officers linked to the incident were immediately withdrawn from the Delta State Command and transferred to Force Headquarters in Abuja, where they faced accelerated disciplinary proceedings ordered by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
The Force Disciplinary Committee concluded its review and found that the principal officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, violated Force Order 237 and other regulations governing the use of firearms. The committee described his conduct as unlawful, unprofessional, and a betrayal of the police mandate to protect life.
Following the findings, the committee recommended the immediate dismissal of ASP Usman and other officers found culpable. The Inspector-General has approved the recommendations and forwarded them to the Police Service Commission for ratification.

Once administrative processes are completed, the affected officers will be handed over to judicial authorities for prosecution over their roles in what the police described as an extrajudicial killing.
The Inspector-General reaffirmed the Force’s zero‑tolerance policy for abuse of power, stressing that no officer is permitted to take life outside the confines of the law. He emphasized that any breach of this principle will attract full disciplinary and legal consequences.
He also extended condolences to the family of the late Mr. Ogidi, assuring them that the case will be handled with utmost seriousness and transparency to reinforce public trust in the police.
The statement urged members of the public to remain calm, assuring that the Nigeria Police Force remains committed to professionalism, accountability, and the protection of citizens’ rights.
