Luton captain Tom Lockyer collapses against Bournemouth in worrying scenes as players are led off the pitch during the Premier League match

Luton and Bournemouth players were led off the pitch after defender Tom Lockyer collapsed in the second half of the Premier League match.

The Luton captain collapsed close to the centre circle after an apparent head injury, with manager Rob Edwards running onto the pitch to support his player.

Medical staff treated the Welsh international with players visibly devastated on the pitch at Dean Court. Luton team-mate Issa Kabore was seen praying on the touchline.

Referee Simon Hooper took players off the pitch as Lockyer continued to receive treatment, with fans chanting in support to the defender. 

Lockyer was then stretched off the pitch to a standing ovation.

Bournemouth staff doctor has confirmed to Mail Sport that Lockyer is ‘alert and responsive.’ 

Lockyer had gone down off the ball, with no players near him. 

The 29-year-old had previously collapse during the play-off final at Wembley in May.

Lockyer was given the all-clear to return to football after undergoing heart surgery.

He had an atrial fibrillation, which causes an irregular — or unusually fast — heart rate.
