Benjamin Netanyahu has undergone “successful” hernia surgery, the Israeli Prime Minister’s office announced on Monday. The 74-year-old Prime Minister is “in good shape and beginning to recover,”” as reported by the AFP news agency, following an operation conducted on Sunday evening.
According to The Times of Israel, the Israeli leader is “recovering” and in communication with his family.
In his absence, Deputy Prime Minister and Justice Minister Yariv Levin is assuming Netanyahu’s responsibilities as the acting Prime Minister.
The discovery of a hernia during a “routine” checkup on Saturday was disclosed by his office prior to the operation. The surgery, which took place on Sunday, was performed under general anaesthesia.
