Sir David Amess, the MP for Southend West in Essex, died after being stabbed multiple times on Friday at Belfairs Methodist Church in Leigh-on-Sea.
Police arrested a 25-year-old man at the scene who has since been further detained under the Terrorism Act.
The Counter Terrorism Command is leading the investigation.
