A gunman has killed nine people and injured seven others in a mass shooting at a shopping mall in Texas, USA on Saturday, May 6, 2023.
The yet-to-be-named man was said to have stepped out of a silver sedan and opened fire at the Premium Outlets mall. He was shot dead by a police officer who happened to be nearby, authorities said.
The Allen fire chief, Jonathan Boyd, said six people died at the scene and two more were pronounced dead on arrival at the hospital. Three out of the seven people injured are in a critical conditions.
An Allen police officer was in the area on an unrelated call when he heard shots at 3.36pm, the police department said in a statement.
“The officer engaged the suspect and neutralized the threat. He then called for emergency personnel,” the agency said.
