The Management of the University of Medical Sciences Teaching Hospital (UNIMETH) has denied reports that the over N200m worth of Intensive Care Unit equipment donated by the Redeemed Christian Church has been looted or stolen.
It said the equipment was intact even though they were not fully utilised due to the dearth of staff.
Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Dr Oluwole Ige, who stated this at a press briefing, said the hospital has demanded an apology and retraction from the author of the online publication.
Dr. Ige, who was represented by the Chairman of the Medical Advisory Committee (CMAC), Dr. Michael Gbala, said the donors recently visited the hospital for its usual routine check to verify the state and level of usage of the equipment.
He explained that the hospital had ICU equipment before the RCCG donated another one but that it was difficult to use the two ICUs due to the dearth of qualified staff.
Ige said: “No ICU equipment was stolen. The man that wrote the report claimed some of our staff called him. What he wrote was untrue. It was not correct. We have been using the equipment.
“When the Redeemed Church donated the second ICU, due to the Japa syndrome, it became difficult for us to use two ICU spaces. Sometimes we do not have enough patients. There were no personnel to maintain the two.”
