Filippo Ferlazzo, the Italian who murdered Physically Challenge Nigerian Alika Ogorchukwu in July 2022, has been sentenced to 24 years in prison in Italy.

The 39-year-old Nigerian man was beaten to death in the Italian city of Civitanova Marche in the Marche Region in the Province of Macerata.

According to Italian authorities, Ogorchukwu was beaten while out walking in broad daylight after asking Ferlazzo’s fiancée to buy him a ring.

Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), revealed this in a statement signed by NIDCOM spokesperson Gabriel Odu on Thursday.

“I am relieved that this case has finally received justice.” As I often emphasize, acts must have repercussions.

“The NIDCOM chairman also asked Nigerians in the diaspora to follow the law, achieve in their fields, and never forget to give back to their nation.

She also urged Nigerians residing overseas to obey the law, excel at their jobs, and never forget their roots by supporting their homeland.
