JUST IN: Businessman killed by robbers in Edo

Armed robbers currently operating in a Lexus 350 SUV within Benin City metropolis have shot dead a businessman identified as Derrick Denco.

The robbers were said to specialise in robbing jewellery from their victims.

Derrick was on the popular Igun Street to fix his car when he was accosted by the robbers in front of the shop where he had parked to buy the vehicle parts.

Witnesses said the robbers asked Derrick to give them the jewelry he was wearing, but he resisted, which made the robbers shoot him twice in the leg.

An eyewitness, Obinna Igwe, said Derrick was in his shop when the attack took place.

He said it was the same gang that had been robbing individuals of their jewelry in various parts of Benin City.

Edo State Police spokesman, Moses Yamu, said the police have begun a manhunt for the robbers.

He said the suspects would soon be apprehended.
