In a long-awaited development in a case that has baffled detectives and captivated the public ever since the hip-hop icon was shot dead on the Las Vegas Strip 27 years ago, one of the last surviving witnesses to the 1996 murder of rapper Tupac Shakur has been detained in the Las Vegas-area, United States.
According to two sources with firsthand knowledge of the arrest, Duane “Keffe D” Davis was arrested early Friday morning on charges of murder. They were not authorized to talk publicly before an expected indictment later that day.

It was unclear from court records whether Davis had an attorney who can comment on his behalf. In the more than two months since police raided his wife’s home in nearby Henderson on July 17, Davis has not replied to several phone and text messages from The Associated Press seeking comment or an interview.

According to the documents, investigators were looking for items “relating to Tupac Shakur’s murder.

“Multiple computers, a cellphone and hard drive, a Vibe magazine featuring Shakur, several.40-caliber bullets, two “tubs containing photographs,” and a copy of Davis’ 2019 tell-all memoir, “Compton Street Legend,” were seized by police.
Shakur was shot and killed when he was 25 years old. He was in a BMW driven by Death Row Records founder Marion “Suge” Knight when the Cadillac drove up next to them at a red light.
The rapper died as his fourth solo album, “All Eyez on Me,” was still selling well, with over 5 million copies sold. Shakur, who has been nominated for six Grammy Awards, is widely regarded as one of the most influential and versatile rappers of all time.
