President Bola Tinubu hinted at the unveiling of new regulations for social media in Nigeria during a book presentation event in Lagos on Thursday, February 8.
Represented by his Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, Tinubu underscored the need for federal lawmakers to review existing regulations to enhance them. Gbajabiamila, highlighted the challenges faced in previous attempts to introduce new regulations, citing opposition from civil organizations.
He stressed the importance of combating misinformation on social media and called on the 10th Assembly to continue the efforts initiated in the previous session to regulate the sector effectively.
