Senegal’s newly appointed President Bassirou Diomaye Faye announced the designation of Ousmane Sonko as the nation’s new prime minister on Wednesday.

Sonko, a figure barred from participating in the recent presidential elections, is widely recognized for his staunch stance against corruption and vocal critiques of the ruling elites.

The conservative Muslim leader also champions a pan-Africanist perspective.

Despite facing legal challenges and convictions related to libel and abuse, Sonko maintains significant support, particularly among the youth demographic in Senegal.
