France’s incumbent president, Emmanuel Macron was reelected on Sunday, April 24, with 58.2% of the votes compared to 41.8% for his rival, far-right candidate Marine Le Pen, according to projections by Ipsos-Sopra Steria for France Télévisions and Radio France.
Mr. Macron’s victory makes him the first French president in 20 years to win a second term.
Mr. Macron had asked voters to trust him for a second five-year term despite a presidency that was troubled by protests, the pandemic and Russia’s war on Ukraine.
