Josua Hutagalung, 33, from Sumatra, probably wasn’t best pleased when the 2.1kg space rock crashed through his veranda’s tin roof.

However, he praised his lucky stars when it made him a millionaire.
The meteorite ended up buried 15cm deep in soil next to his house. Having presumably checked that it didn’t contain a tiny Superman, he posted pictures on Facebook, causing quite a stir.

The meteorite is estimated to be 4.5 billion years old and is classified as CM1/2 carbonaceous Chondrite, making it worth around $1.85m.

Hutagalung sold the rock to a specialist collector in the US and, while he wouldn’t reveal the exact price, he indicated that it was over $1.3m – approximately 30 years salary for the coffin-maker.
He plans to use the money to build a new church for his town, which is one way of thanking the heavens.
